the best lipstick shades for your skin tone

There is something SO fun about lipstick. Makeup is meant to create a mood and define your features, and the right lipstick color plays a big role in that process. The hardest thing about finding the perfect lipstick, in my opinion, is finding the right shade for your skin tone. There are lots of beauty brands that make amazing lipsticks with great formulas; the trick is to find the shade that works for you! I’m not an expert by any means, but I’ve learned a few tricks from makeup artists over the years that I’m happy to share with you all today. Keep reading to learn how to find exactly the right shade of lipstick for your skin tone.

If you have fair skin, go for pinks and reds, and stay away from shades that are too light or too yellow since they might wash you out.

If you have darker skin, try the deep reds and berry shades! Avoid lighter colors unless you are going for a statement (or if the outfit calls for it!)

If you have olive skin, you probably have a more neutral undertone, which means you can pull off a wide variety of lipstick colors! Experiment with different shades and find a few fun ones, and never underestimate how pretty a classic red lip can be.

Remember- you can always go to a makeup counter & test out shades on the back of your hand, and there’s usually a helpful sales associate nearby who can guide you in the right direction. There are also a few virtual lipstick try-on tools available through brands like YSL and MAC- it’s fun to play around with different shades from the comfort of home!
